Form and Function Are One (How I Build in Flow With AI)
Form and function should be one, joined in a spiritual union
There are a few dominant theories when it comes to building anything especially in design or development.
Form follows function — you start with what it needs to do, then make it look good.
Function follows form — you design something beautiful, then figure out how to make it work.
But I’ve never been able to separate them like that.
When I’m creating something whether it’s a brand, an app, or even just an email, I’ve always believed what Frank Lloyd Wright said:
“Form and function should be one, joined in a spiritual union.”
— Frank Lloyd Wright
That quote has shaped how I approach everything I build. And lately, with tools like Lovable and AI in general, I’ve felt more in flow than ever because I no longer have to choose one side or the other. I can move between them in real time.
Building in Flow
When I’m working on a project like ZeroAcquire or No-Code Exits, I don’t think of design and development as steps. I think of them as layers in the same work.
With Lovable, I can design and build at the same time. One moment I’m shaping how it looks, the next I’m editing functionality and then instantly going back to tweak the headline, layout, or user flow.
There’s no handoff between designer and developer. It’s just me, in a loop of iteration.
That’s something I never had before. In traditional environments, switching between design and dev created friction. It led to tension, delays, unhappy people all around.
But now? I work like a artist, again.
I Work the Whole Canvas
Artists don’t finish the nose, then move to the mouth, then the eyes. They work the whole canvas at once.
Because every part affects every other part. Color here means shadow there. A brushstroke in the background changes the balance in the foreground.
That’s how I think when I’m building.
I don’t build screens. I build stories. I don’t wireframe features. I creating experiences.
Every detail matters. Not because I’m obsessed with perfection, but because I care about how it feels to move through something.
With Lovable and AI tools by my side, I can move fast without feeling rushed. I can explore without breaking things. I can dream, sketch, test, and build, all in one day.
AI As Creative Collaborator
AI hasn’t just sped me up, it’s freed me up.
Now when I’m building a landing page or mapping out a growth plan, I don’t get stuck waiting on someone else to catch up to the vision. I just build it.
Sometimes I’ll write a headline and instantly visualize how it feels in the flow of a page.
Other times I’ll mock up a new onboarding process and then ask AI to improve the logic or write the backend triggers.
That back-and-forth the interplay between form and function, logic and layout is a spiritual experience within the creator.
Why This Matters
We’re entering a new era. One where creators like me are going solo, are fast-moving, systems-minded and can work like artists and engineers at once.
We don’t have to choose between the backend or the brand voice. Between UX or utility. Between beauty or brains.
We can create in flow.
Build in context.
Design experiences that work because they feel right.
That’s how I’m building my projects now.
And it’s how I plan to build everything going forward.
Because form and function aren’t two things.
They’re one.
🔥 Currently Building Experimenting
If you want to see this approach in action, here’s what I’m working on right now:
ZeroAcquire – A platform to help people acquire profitable digital businesses with $0 down.
No-Code Exits – A newsletter with real founder success stories of profitable products made without writing code.
LaunchBoost - A startup directory and submission tool to get free traffic, press, and backlinks from launch sites.
FindingLeads - A local lead gen platform for contractors and service providers.
AgencyGrowth - A service and platform helping marketing agencies scale using AI, SOPs, and white-label teams.
👉 Want to build in flow too?
